In this book I have found some helpful tips. Those introductions and set of recipes could have easily been combined to a single book leaving the fat bombs in its own world. I like all most every recipe in this book, which are associated with this diet. The recipes are easy to prepare and it has a clear and easy to understand instruction. Most of these low carb recipes are very delicious and easy to cook. The information is great. This guide is truly an asset to tackle the low carb diet, and I would call it a clear must read for anyone taking on a low carb diet.
I love low carb eating, so I was looking for some recipes to add variety to my diet. Overall, I like this book. The chicken and broccoli stuffed zucchini recipe in the reading sample (what sold me on buying the book) was delicious! My only concern is that the measurements of some of the recipe ingredients appears to be off. For example, I made the brownies and the recipe called for 2 cups of granulated stevia. There was only 1 cup of almond flour, so I thought that sounded like way too much stevia for the amount of flour, and I was right. It was terrible. It was completely inedible; and, given the price of the ingredients, it was an expensive mistake. Again, it appears that most of the recipes are good, but if the ingredients sound off, they may be.Some of the recipes also require ingredients that you may have to get at a specialty grocery store or a health food store.
If you are looking to change your lifestyle and not just go on a diet, Marc Reid's Low Carb Diet Cookbook is the way to go. The recipes are amazing and I love that Marc includes yummy dessert and snack options. The emphasis on not just dieting for 30 days, but detoxing first to prepare your body for healthy food options and then delivering a comprehensive cook book is what really draws me to this book. The huge variety of recipes will make sure that I don't get bored eating the same thing over and over again. Variety is key and Marc definitely provides that.
I apologize for longer review. I will be returning this book. Some books are meant only for those who know how to cook and others are good also for beginners. This cookbook is not meant for those beginners who need precise directions as this cookbook takes shortcuts in directions, is inconsistent with how it measures ingredients, is imprecise in instructions, misses ingredients and has sloppy editing. Further, for the beginner low-carb person, there is not a consistent use of ingredients.Upon receipt of this book, it is clear that this is an attempt a self-publishing (no publisher’s page) with severe lack of editing. On the second page, the foreword thanks the customer for purchasing a cookbook with a different title.After the Table of Contents and a paragraph intro prefaced with Shakespeare, there is slightly over a page that communicates what the author has stated as the truth about carbs. It reads like a grade school report (minus the required citations). The author also gets off topic in this very short preview including knocking dairy products as a source of dietary sensitivities. While I will concede that there is some truth to this statement as I have a daughter who is limited in what her dairy intake may be, the author needs to provide back up for their accusation. Ironically, the cookbook uses dairy in several of its recipes.The cookbook is very inconsistent. Sometimes Tbsp is used to represent tablespoon, other times, tbsp. The author will list a capitalized ingredient like Garlic Powder and then show the next ingredient with mixed caps like Onion powder followed by an ingredient all lower case. For some recipes, the measurement is before the listed ingredients, and for other recipes, it is listed in parentheses behind the listed ingredients. And there are recipes where an ingredient listed only within the cooking instructions, but not included with a quantity in the ingredient list. I even saw one dry ingredient with just a 3 in front (did that mean cups, ¾ cup, Tbsp, tsp). While measurements are usually in English standard, there is metric also included (i.e. 100 ml cream, 125 g cream cheese and 500 g ground beef) and one recipe was even so oddly precise that it called for 4.48 lbs pork chops. While there is some attempt at nutritional information, this is also inconsistent. Sometimes total carbs and fiber are presented, sometimes only net carbs, and then in the dessert section, many of the recipes only list calories and fat with no mention of carbs.There are identical repeats of recipes within this book. A chicken stew, breaded cutlet recipe, garlic chicken thighs, and chicken cauliflower lasagna recipes on pages 193 – 200 are repeated on pages 258 – 265 verbatim except for the title of the recipe.Directions are not for the beginner and makes assumptions of equipment available. Example: Cook cauliflower in microwave on the vegetable setting. Not all microwaves have a vegetable setting. The book does not provide an alternative such as a few minutes in boiling water and wringing out extra water. Another example: pan fry onions and green peppers. No length of time provided to do this such as 5 minutes nor were observational cues provided such as until softened or until onions translucent or nearing carmelized.Nor should this cookbook be considered for someone starting out based upon the diversity of ingredients listed. For example, sweeteners vary tremendously – there is liquid Stevia, granulated Stevia, Erythritol, Xylitol, agave nectar, sugar free maple syrup, Yacon syrup, Natvia, Truvia. Similarly, there are an abundance of flour substitutes including coconut flower, almond flour, arrowroot, ground flax, psyllium husk powder. Also, there is Metamucil powder and a half dozen varieties of protein powders.Despite the gold seal on the front cover that states weight loss guaranteed (yes, I know – who really believes that), the book concludes with over a page of legal disclaimers including any guarantee assurances. What is that about?!?In summary, this is a poorly written book with no editing and will certainly be returned.
I love this book. This is because it contains recipes that are my favorites. I love to eat sweets and I do not know that it can be prepared that can be considered carb-friendly. I will persuade the girlfriend to cook the recipes found here together.
This is a great guide on Low Carb diet. It's very helpful and timely for me since I am trying to lose weight now and seeking for an effective diet. This book gave me deeper knowledge about Low Carb diet and its health benefits. Other than this, the recipes given are I think delicious and easy to cook! I will definitely try these.
