This was a great book. Carly keeps you in her book from page one until the end. I enjoyed this book.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I cannot wait to get started on the next book in the series. I am looking forward to reading Travis's story.
Loss of a loved one is devastating and can be hard to deal with. But forgiveness and true love with drama thrown in can mean a HEA!
Great novella with romance and suspense. Quick read.
Cute, fast story. It was rushed in some spots but over all good. Nate Decker is some dream boat man.
Send this to my Kindle and I will read it
I adored this book. Nate and Hazel seem very human to me, and I love that I can relate to them even if their choices aren't my own. In the beginning, their marriage feels like a fairy tale, and everything is absolutely perfect. But when their life together hits a major obstacle, they both react out of pain and guilt and anger. They divorce. Years later, they accidentally run into each other at a masquerade charity ball and are given a second chance. But should they take it? After all, there were good reasons why their marriage didn't work out the first time. Could things really have changed so much in just two years? Before they can decide, Hazel receives some bad news from back home and she and Nate are thrown into the middle of a mystery. In the process we're introduced to Hazel's fun, quirky family as well as the other "characters" who live in her home town of Ever After, Montana. After reading this book I have to say, I'm ready to pack up and move there, too! There's so much going on in this small town, I can't wait to see what happens next!
This was a fun romance with some mystery/suspense thrown in. It's the best of both worlds, right? Well, it tried to be.DISCLAIMER: I am a big fan of second chance romance stories but not so much when it's about divorcees getting back together. To me it just seems like the couple should have worked harder on their marriage - in this instance, they didn't try at all to stay married - and could have worked things out rather than get divorced - but I love clean romance stories and decided to give this one a shot because of other authors in the series.Nate and Hazel - love that name! - are a cute couple who two years prior to the opening of the story, got divorced due to issues stemming from the untimely passing of their three year old son to ALS. They happen to both be at a Masquerade hospital fundraiser event for ALS, where Nate sees the most beautiful woman in the room and asks her to dance... who turns out to be his ex-wife. Now, I know they're wearing masks and it's been two years since he's seen Hazel, but he was literally just thinking about her right before he saw this "most beautiful woman" and he doesn't even sense a hint of familiarity about her? Nope, nothing. Not even after he asks her to dance and her response is, "Oh, uh, hi, Nate." Not even a hint of a glimmer. She clearly recognized him right off the bat but it doesn't make sense to me that he continuously states throughout the book how much he still loved Hazel after she divorced him and yet he doesn't think of or notice any similarities between the two women. But that's besides the point. While still with him at the party, Hazel gets a call from home that her sister is unconscious and in the hospital, so Nate offers to fly her back to her hometown in Montana aboard his private plane instead of going on his planned vacation. After finding out that Lox, Hazel's sister, was knocked unconscious by an unknown person, he then offers to stay with Hazel to not only offer his support, but to help bake Lox's already paid for order of 30 dozen cookies for an upcoming wedding in a few days and try to solve the mystery of her attack. I love the pull Nate and Hazel feel to each other while trying to decide if the other person can forgive them for their part in the divorce. Hazel was devastated losing their son - and rightly so - but then she tells Nate she needs space and goes home to her family to grieve without him. Nate's only family is Hazel, since his parents died years before, but she leaves him without a second glance to mourn alone and then she comes home a month later with divorce papers. He said he signed the divorce papers out of anger, but now he's ready and willing to fight for her, to fight for them. Why now? Why not fight for their love before? It's cute that they're still so drawn to each other and I love the way the author writes their thoughts - it's all incredibly romantic and I couldn't keep the grin off my face during those parts - but when Lox briefly regains consciousness and tells Hazel, who happens to be the only other person in her hospital room at the moment, "Follow the clues," and then immediately drops back off to sleep, I couldn't have rolled my eyes any harder. It felt way too forced, regardless of the following sentence being about the girls' love of Nancy Drew books growing up. But anyway... Hazel and Nate go to Lox's bakery the next day to bake the aforementioned cookies while Lox is recovering, they find some more clues there and later discover another business owner knocked out in a like manner as Lox. I'm not going to go into any spoilers of the mystery angle of the plot, but after growing closer and - even though they both felt they never stopped loving the other person - falling back in love, they both admit to their idiocy in the divorce and agree on giving their love a second chance and for "forever this time". Hence my hesitation to read about divorcees falling back in love. What's going to be different "this time" than from before? All in all, it was a good rekindled love story but I didn't care for the mystery part of the story. Now, don't get me wrong, I like a good romantic suspense story and I liked that I didn't figure out the attacker any sooner than the main characters, but that portion of the story felt too forced. Having the couple find clues and figuring out the attacker's scheme was great and I love that Nate rescued Hazel from the bad guys in the end. But after having the mystery solved and the bad guys being apprehended and then taken away, Right After Being Attacked Herself, Hazel laments saying, "I sure wish we knew what that piece of fabric was from." What?! Because that's the first thing I'd be thinking about right after almost being killed: some obscure "clue" they stumbled across on their first day at the bakery. The sheriff tells them, "Oh, that's from so-and-so's shirt," and no other explanation of why it was where they'd found it, but Hazel being so hawk-eyed focused on it, was a let down.
