An excellent up to date book concerning Fats, and besides the Fats also Cholesterol, Cancer, Sugar, Herbs, and much more, even though it's printing in the year 1993. To me it's a shame that I did not learn about its existence before here in the year 2013, even though not having any health problems.By this book we, of course, especially are getting all of the information concerning the Fats, and thereby Oils. That is what we are getting from each of these of calories, the highest temperatures by which we must treat them, the difference of the amount of different Fatty acids composition in each of them, if they have been destroyed by producers, and if they are good or bad when it comes to our health. On the side 237 we are getting a Table with 32 Fats, showing the amount of the different Fatty acids which they are containing.Being so detailed, as the book is, and having so many sides, it took me many days to read it. Among the details, we for example on the side 73 are reading about lowering the Cholesterol, which among other have resulted in some cases of suicides. And concerning Cholesterol, for example, doctors 3 years ago, tried to put my wife on Drugs, which I then stopped by showing them, that among other, according to calculations taken from a Harvard book, my wife had much less chance than I, for getting a heart attack.And furthermore, concerning the Cholesterol, we on the side 335 are reading that 2 quarts/day, of whole milk, for some persons, can raise their Cholesterol levels from 180 mg/dl to 400 mg/dl in less than 2 months. Well this book was so good and informative, that I ended ordering two of them by mistake, and the return time was so short that I missed returning one of the books by just a couple of days. Anyway, what you'll find in this book could save your life, literally. There are 456 pages in this book. After reading only a bit of it, I now value the brands of oils I find in health food stores with the name UDO. Udo Erasmus breaks down a very complicating subject to a level that the average person can understand.

This is an A to Z book on everything you need to know about fats. There is a wealth of info in this book. I do, however, feel there was too much technical information. I want to know what I need to do to maintain my optimum health. I donâ€™t need to know the molecular structure of every single fat chain. Overall Informative book, but I felt like I was back in college.

Beware that this is the first edition, and there is a newer second edition published in 1994. The product description is for the second edition, which this book is not. The description is misleading and is being used to sell an old book. Accidental? Hard to believe. Get the second edition, not this one.

Admittedly, this one tends to be a bit pricey. But, the content is pure gold for any programmer. Nowhere is the Prolog paradigm better conveyed than here. And, it is of little value to you if you attempt to learn prolog with a mindset of some other language. Prolog is unique and demands a unique way of looking at computer programming in general. It is dated a bit in that it does not cover all the latest developments in Prolog/AI research but no other Prolog books provide the foundational understanding that it does. Get this one for a solid foundation and then build on it with others. See my listmania list of AI Language books for suggestions of followup titles.

After Clocksin and Mellish this is the book to get. It develops the fundamental ideas of the core language, and, continuing in the same style of proper language use and applied computer science avoids being esoteric as it pushes the reader to higher order programming naturally. Recommended! Bought mine second hand in excellent condition. Shame it's not available on Kindle.

This, to me, is one of the 4 best books on computer programming. Unfortunately, it is hard. Not because the book is poorly written - it is like a wonderful story, but because understanding how to think declaratively after being taught something like C or Java is like someone giving you a pair of wings when you're a mudfish.Thinking declaratively changes how you think about problems and how you write code. It's a career changing experience. This is a great book; very clear writing and descriptions. To be honest, I haven't given Prolog, or this book, the time and effort that it deserves - whenever I need to quickly knock a script together I keep falling back to my imperative tendencies, frustrated but knowing that there is likely to be a more elegant declarative solution if I just persevered. I would love to have the time to sit down and methodically work through this book. I believe that I would gain a lot from doing so. Instead I've usually dipped in, late at night when half asleep, to admire the elegance of declarative programming - but this has helped me keep the faith that programming can be an elegant and thoughtful exercise.One day I will find the time to study and ponder Sterling's wonderful work (and then I will rewrite this review with insightful comments and witty rejoinders).

"The Art of Prolog" tries to be top notch: Beautifully crafted book, clear partition in four parts (Logic Programs, The Prolog Language, Advanced Prolog Programming Techniques, Applications), and most programs are very beautiful.Anyhow the authors often try to explain the trivial sometimes even the shallow, then they often do not spent much effort in explaining the difficult. There is an unusual large amount of references to other parts of this book: backward and worse forward. The choice to explain first logic programming and then Edinburgh Prolog as an approximate implementation is especially unfortunate in this respect: A high level of redundancy separated by an entire book part with references to each other.Most of the small programs are very beautiful and true gems. Though the reader should not foul herself, the development of most programs did last many years of brilliant people. I did not get a feel for the difficulty of developing a reasonable prolog program on my own.I really liked the Background section at the end of each chapter: A very sound view to the world around the book.If you are somewhat knowledgeable of the usual AI and CS problems, you will have a lot of pleasure to the elegant approach a prolog program can have to tackle many of them.

I spent about as much time reading this book as pondering Alan Watt's explanations for several profound qualities of reality and conscious experience. The first 3 chapters alone have several hours worth of deep conversation on perception and mental models, and they alone are the most complete and resonant story of society and reality I've heard yet.Alan Watts has such a unique and clear way of explaining things that there are dozens of paragraphs worth highlighting, sharing, and re-visiting later. He also has a refreshingly "outside" view on Eastern philosophy and often stops to recount a few funny stories about the "games" that Zen schools or Hindu gurus play on their students in order to teach lessons. Alan keeps a few of the more valuable story-driven explanations, but he clearly sees little value in speaking excessively in riddles at the expense of his readers' understanding of Buddhist and Hindu philosophy. Anyone who doesn't already have experience with Eastern philosophy or hasn't already come to a conclusion on their life purpose would benefit from reading this book.

This is one of my favorite Alan Watts books so far along with The Book on The Taboo of Knowing Who You Are. It's a collection of his lectures. The book has a conversational tone which is easier to follow than some of his other books and it's loaded with gems of wisdom. Most of it is centered around enjoying life, which it seems many forget to do.

I just love Alan Watts, and this book hits all the main points. If I could say it better than Watts, my review would be longer.

Excellent philosophical work from one of my favorite authors on the philosophy of religion. He has Western and Eastern perspectives that seem to provide a balanced look at each to form a complete paradigm shift for the reader. I recommend this for Zen students especially.

Another pointless exercise in repetition. It's funny - I started out with this huge Alan Watts fascination and by buying numerous books have come to loathe his teaching style. Not because I disagree with any of the specifics, but mostly because I detest his repetitive and oftentimes crude analogies, metaphors and similes, and his lame habit of trying to sound hip with slang from the generation his writings were targeting at the time. This crap is so outdated in terms of his attempts to make his thoughts conform to the vernacular of the day. I would have much preferred that he just dropped the hip posturing and just layed everything on me in basic academic language.I told myself that if I read the words "bag of skin" or his notions of play, games and vibrations (or "ignore-ance") one more time in his various essays...and here I am now to unload. There was clearly a point in his career where he should have started editing, abridging and compiling his key concepts into a dense tome, rather than continue writing small pieces that mostly repeat his earlier works. I could easily see his best writing and thinking distilled into a couple of 300-400 page books.Probably one of his most serious and legitimate intellectual crimes though is to falsely assert what he claims is a common problem in society (either behavioral or just in our minds) in order to use his insight to debunk it. Kind of a straw man if you will. Indeed, over the course of his writings there appear many straw men that he fraudulently sets up for takedown in order to validate his wisdom, or at the very least he grossly exaggerates the prevalence of a particular problematic thought or behavior as a set piece to take aim at with his philosophy.I still like numerous concepts that he has introduced, and recognize that at the time of his writing it was groundbreaking stuff, but time has not been kind to his style. Also, over the course of his voluminous writings there is far too much redundancy. You would think that such a hip and righteous bag of skin like Alan would realize that less is more. I just can't go any farther into his writing anymore. I'm done. I'm seeing way too much repeating phrases and ideas at this point to learn anything new from him. Time to move on.To Alan Watts the man I give four out of five stars. For the sum of his writing I give three stars. I'm sure if I was reading him as a 22 year old in the 60s I'd give him five stars across the board so all you old timers can be at peace with my savaging of your bro idol.

Wonderful book. Filled from cover to cover with great insight. Loved reading this. Amazing how close Alan's view is to Jed McKenna and Aldous Huxley!

What can I say about Alan Watts that even begins to capture the profound wisdom he shared? His writings and recordings have become an important signpost on my spiritual journey and I treasure his unique voice.
