too small for the entire country. Purchase a National Geographic front and back map instead

It shows the beaten track...can hardly even make out any other roads. Only mileage it gives is for 5 cities on each Island, 5 of which it doesn't even have a barely readable road to. All the tour bus stuff I'm sure. But for a real explore...forget it.

Alexa works great. Easily set up and absolutely no problems since I’ve owned the device. I enjoy the music and usually ask it what the weather is in many different locations. Always responds immediately to all questions asked of Alexa. There has been little to dislike and much to like and enjoy. Hopefully Amazon will continue to update and add functions. I’m thrilled with my Alexa purchase.

The author of this book understands that the reader doesn't just want to place elements on a screen, but connect those elements, perform view transitions, and access unique and novel aspects of the Android API--and he certainly doesn't disappoint in satisfying the reader's desire in that regard. I enjoyed reading it because an application is simultaneously completing as you are reading it through. I would definitely recommend this book to any of my friends, looking to develop Android Applications. For anyone that is not really interested in Android Application Development, than this is definitely not their book. Examples are working and clearly explained step by step. There are a lot of code snippets that are worth saving.

This is a good, concise "quick start" guide for people new to Android development. It helps you get a good overview of the basic structure of an Android app and how they're put together. This book isn't really an introduction to programming (you'd have a hard time following it if you had no background at all), and it certainly isn't an "everything you ever wanted to know about Android" type book (think "high level overview and building blocks"), but it provides enough information to help you transition to developing on the platform more quickly.My only gripe about this book is the formatting on the Kindle edition. I'm not sure how I would've done it differently truthfully but the poor formatting sometimes made it difficult to follow the code samples.

Another reviewer commented on the formatting of the Kindle edition. Trust me, the formatting on the paperback edition also sucks. I'm only on page 29 and the grammar Nazi in me is going crazy. Forget proofreading. The author (or editor) failed even to spell check this document. Folks, it's not that hard. The author provided what was to be a sample of code. Instead of properly formatted code each line is a bullet item. At the end of the sample we're left with a series of unmatched closing curly brackets. Compilers and interpreters are OCD. Most programmers are, too. The author obviously is not and this makes me question the value of the stuff that I don't know. If you're wrong about stuff that I do know I don't trust you with stuff that I don't know anything about. I rated it as three stars because most folks seem to think it's OK and I don't want to argue with them. I will say that I would not have purchased this had I been aware of the slovenly way it was thrown together.

The book does a poor job of explaining the process it's more of a glossary of terms than anything else. I wouldn't recommend this unless you already know how to program and need an index of terms.

About the Author

DOUG GILMOUR was born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. Over his twenty seasons in the NHL, he played for the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens before returning to the Leafs to retire in the blue and white in 2003. He won the Memorial Cup with the Cornwall Royals and the Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames, was an NHL all-star and still holds a number of junior hockey and Toronto Maple Leaf records. Gilmour became the coach of his hometown’s junior hockey franchise, the Kingston Frontenacs, in 2008 and is now the team’s general manager. He lives in Kingston. Twitter: @DougGilmour93
