I use this book daily in my CPE internship in palliative care hospital chaplaincy. It's the perfect size to tuck into a chaplain's bag, and it is very well-organized. The resources cover a wide range of traditions and circumstances--everything from a blessing for a healthy baby to prayers for removal of life support.The faith traditions are represented in a comprehensive and respectful way, though some are better met than others (the "Native American prayer" section, with just two entries, is very slim and does not begin to approach even a cursory representative survey of prayers from this vast tradition). I have used the blank pages and spaces in the book to write in prayers and resources I've found helpful, and I imagine others probably do the same.Health care chaplaincy is an interfaith environment in which all chaplains need to be prepared to meet patients, families, and other health care providers just where they are in their spiritual journeys. I'm a hospice chaplain for a diverse group of patients from many different religions. This not only gives readings and prayers, but a summary of worldview and how the different religions approach death and suffering. There are various readings. There are those that are "generic" that could be read in any religion. There are those that are very specific to a specific religion and may cause a struggle for the reader. However, there are enough readings in each included religion that are "generic" to where no chaplain would really have a strain of conscience reading for a patient.

This is a well-written book aimed around the upper elementary level. It has clear text which speaks directly to the reader ("You can see...") without condescension, neat and charming line drawing illustrations, and many useful suggested activities, which take minimal supplies and equipment but illustrate the intended concepts well. It was written in 1952, but has mostly worn well; after all, most of geology is still pretty similar! There are a couple of exceptions, though. A section on damming rivers contains no discussion of any negative environmental effects, which presents a great opportunity to have students do a little research about how the thinking has become more complex since the book was written. More serious is the discussion of how the earth's crust moves (Chapter IX); since this was published before plate tectonics theory was widely accepted, it refers to some outdated models that could be confusing to students, even if you later point out that they have been superseded and present the newer theory. (Research shows that plausible misconceptions are hard to dislodge from our brains, even after explanations of why they are wrong.) I'm planning to just skip that chapter and replace it with more up-to-date material. For the especially sensitive, there are a few minor gender anachronisms; most of the illustrations which include people (which together constitute a small proportion of the overall illustrations) show boys or men, and the final section is called "Man and the Earth". I find these items not very troublesome, and plan to discuss them lightly (lots of waggling eyebrows) when we get there. Overall, I find the writing to be very engaging and the formatting to be refreshing- no pages over-crammed with splashy but irrelevant visuals, no call-out and text boxes constantly interrupting the flow of the text. Just highly readable, even a bit lyrical in places, explanations of how the earth changes over time.

this is an outstanding book, it shows clearly with easy to understand illustrations how rivers create the geology of our world.

I'm using this book for my third grader's homeschool. It reads like a story and we're both enjoying it. (She reads it independently and narrates it to me, but I always read it first.)

This is an excellent introduction to Earth Science, and I am thrilled that it is now back in print. I have been recommending it for many years now to other homeschoolers in search of quality living science books.

I would have to say that this is a good book because of its showing of pictures. Which also made it a fun okay book. the book has very good hand drawn pictures. If you want to learn about the earth this is a perfect book for you. One thing I didnt like is the confusing words that it used. If its going to be in a 7th grade library 7th graders should be able to understand most of the words.Overall it was an okay book but not that good. Unless you like educational books.

I also have her earlier cookbook, and I worried that there might be overlap between this cookbook and that one, but there isn't. The other one was strictly about baking, while this one covers a little baking, but also jams, omelets, quiche, waffles, pancakes, and breakfast-y beverages.Buy this book for the english muffin recipe, (then make the english muffins). Everyone who tastes them will be grateful. Although, I tested cooking them three different ways, and they're definitely best cooked like a traditional english muffin (on a buttered, semolina'd skillet for about 6 minutes on each side). Sarabeth's entremet ring method is expensive (you have to buy the rings) and the end product is not as good.I've eaten at Sarabeth's a few times, and each time I've ordered her lemon ricotta pancakes because they are amazing (usually - there was an off day). Happily, this cookbook also includes that recipe, so I can successfully recreate her clouds of deliciousness at home.

I have to admit I am disappointed. I wanted a special book, not the usual and boring breakfast and brunch books with the forever muffin, toast and eggs recipes, maybe with some classy ideas for a special breakfast. The book is huge and heavy, however the size is owed to the large font used, not the collection of bold recipes. Most of them don't even have a photograph, and those that do are not overly inspiring or creative. The recipes are not bad, however run of the mill. This book should have better been a paperback in the $ 12 price range, then it would have been nice and decent, but I don't get the posing as huge and heavy coffee table book.

I am a chef and cookbook author. So I don't often purchase cookbooks. But this book is a keeper. The recipes are so enticing, and Sarabeth's voice can be heard throughout. It's as if she is over your shoulder in the kitchen, graciously directing you to make her culinary delights. The selection of recipes is extensive - this is a large book! The photography is so beautiful. Finally Rizzoli makes a beautiful book, bringing all of these experts together in a single work. The chapter on her preserves is worth the cost of the book alone (no one makes jam like Sarabeth!) From simple ideas (cook your oats in a double boiler) to her ethereal blintzes, there is something here for every taste and skill. This book is a treasure. Buy it before the price goes up - but even at full price, it is well worth every cent.

I ask you,baker,cook,balaboosta : Could you go,another day without running into the kitchen to make Sarabeth's sinful array of pancakes or flapjacks ? I didn't think so. Me, either. I didn't. Yes,they turned out perfectly, as her mother in law Hungarian recipes said they would. Sarabeth won't leave you in a lurch or let you down. Even the gazpacho like Bloody Mary recipe is a treat and a half. So buy this book already. No need to thank me-thank Sarabeth.

I've loved Sarabeth's food from the moment I ate breakfast at her restaurant in New York years ago. This is a wonderful cookbook focused on breakfast and brunch items. From simple things like making a fruit plate for a guest look lovely to frittatas and great looking baked goods, this is a book that I'll use for overnight guests and just the two of us.

A few days passed, as I had no time, before my first sit down with the book. When the day came, I sat down in my living room with a cup of coffee and began reading, surveying, and studying the book. I remember becoming excited, relieved, and hungry! This is a collection of recipes that I can form a functional grocery list with. This is a cookbook that can please the kids and be passed down for generations to enjoy (or at least I will try!).My first meal was the Ham and Cheese Turnovers. The picture was irresistible and the ingredients were readily available. The instructions were clear, consise, and easy to execute (easy enough for a man-cook like me to follow!).I made a few math errors and didn’t have the exact kitchen equipment, however, I was pleased again that simple common sense adaptations and improvisions kept me on track. The recipes are easy to work with, allow for flexibily, variation, and are forgiving (... of less-than-professional grade chefs like me).My first time results were mouthwateringly delicious. The turnovers melted in my mouth.I especially love how many of the recipes rely on a “Basic Mix” that can be premade in bulk and stored for meals that need to be made quickly. I also welcomed the surprise of a broad range of food catagories that are covered (breads, jams, eggs, patries, fruits, cereals, etc.).Thank you for bringing warmth into our home!

I am thoroughly in love with this book. I own and run a bed and breakfast and there is not one recipe I've tried that my guests don't leave breakfast raving about. If I could give it 10 stars I would!

Stephen Castles, DPhil, is Research Professor of Sociology at the University of Sydney. He was previously Director of the International Migration Institute at the University of Oxford. His books and articles have been translated into many languages and have been highly influential in the development of international migration studies. Hein de Haas, PhD, is Co-Director of the International Migration Institute, University Lecturer in Migration Studies, and James Martin Fellow at the University of Oxford. He is also Professor of Migration and Development at Maastricht University. Mark J. Miller, PhD, is the Emma Smith Morris Professor of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Delaware. He served on the editorial board of the International Migration Review from 1982 to 2013. Dr. Miller is the author or coauthor of six books and over 100 articles, book chapters, monographs and reviews, including several in French and German. He conducts research and consults widely on comparative immigration and refugee policies, global migration, and migration and security. He is a recipient of the Francis X. My main complaint about the field, though, is the lack of study of migration to and within the MENA region. This book does touch upon the complexities of that area to a limited extent. This book provides a good basis for understanding the focus of different fields as they consider the study of migration. The writing is very accessible and the references to source documents used to present information very helpful for further research.

This is the best introdutory book on migration: autorganized population fluxes and building of social relations nets. I also recommend, to read on the side, The Penguin Atlas on Migration.

Once again, in the 5th edition, Stephen Castles and his co-authors give a brilliant, global overview of patterns of migration and their underlying causes. This is both an excellent text for undergraduate or graduate students and a handy reference for scholars in the field. Written in a clear and well-organized manner, this book not only describes the causes and impacts of migration today but also places contemporary trends in their historical context.

The didatic of this book is amazing, once they give you a wonderful explanation of topics, full of examples, extensive material for futher reading and, what is increadible, a website with revised and extra material, chapter... Helped me a lot! =) Castles and Miller are the god's migration. Obvious, it's a joke! But, they're really the best in what they do.

This book is sooo chock full of interesting information! Perfect combination of short sentences and paragraphs, pointing out the most interesting facts and tidbits about the Titanic, why it crashed, some historical information that shows why so many people did not need to die, nor did the boat need to crash!- GREAT for kids from 4-10- Super inexpensive, we bought for about $3- Just the right length, should last the kid about 30 mins to read on his/her own while looking at the pics- Since it's a 2 ounce paperback book, it's very portableHighly recommend and thank you Nat Geo! My son is 7 and is obsessed with all things Titanic. This book has new and interesting facts and good pictures. It's a bedtime favorite in our house. I especially like how they address the fact that people died, but don't sensationalize the deaths. Instead they focus on all the changes put into effect so this type of accident wouldn't happen again. Also, this is one of the few books that shows some information about the 2nd and 3rd class cabins.

This book was just what I wanted for my 8-year-old grandson who is interested in the Titanic. The print is larger and not too intimidating for a younger reader. The layout of the pages is colorful and attractive for a younger reader, and the pictures are among the best I have seen compared to other books on the Titanic written for children. I deducted one star because the magazine is rather small, a mini-magazine, with fewer than 50 numbered pages.

I bought this for my 9 year old son who is fascinated by the Titanic. He’s read many books on the ship, and I suppose I was expecting a little more for a National Geograohic book, but it just fell flat. This would be a better book for a younger child in first grade, perhaps.

My 10 year autistic son is obsessed with Titanic. He loves it and has already wore out pages. It's been fun and informational to read with him. As a daughter of a school teacher, she ordered one as well for her classroom after seeing how well the story of passengers was told but didn't scare kids when talking about passengers deaths.

I have a four year old son who is very interested in the Titanic (don't ask me how we got there lol) but this is perfect for him! I got the kindle version and we are very happy with it. Perfect amount of information for the younger audience (interesting facts for me as well). The pictures are very detailed and colorful. I would buy again and I would recommend it!

My son is really into Titanic everything and this book was definitely not a let down. He loved the variety of information given and the way it was presented. Definitely would recommend for the Titanic lover in your life!

My son is 7 and interested in the Titanic. I wanted something that had lots of facts and pictures, but was still accessible and appropriate for his age group and reading level (too many books for kids on this topic are too dense, or are for older readers). The book is good for both solo reading and reading together. It's not too long or too big, so it's not intimidating. I like the imagery and the design. It is just enough for a young boy's attention span. The author is a good children's non-fiction writer, so when I saw her name as author, I felt confident ordering this book.

Surprisingly well presented hard cover coffee table book loaded page after page with excellent photos like that seen on the cover. The premise is that these African stone circles date back well over 100,000yrs constituting to the authors evidence of the Sumerian Annunaki god's human gold mining settlement outlined in previous works by noted ancient astronaut theorist Zecharia Sitchin. They further surmise the circles were made to take advantage of the Earth's natural energy lines for various purposes and that many may have astronomical significance. They also make note of long tracks of stacked stone parallel lines, or roads, leading from the circles (which they relate to sluicing gates for metal refinery) as well as what appears to be large tracts of agricultural terracing found on many hillsides.It is safe to say this is not a scholarly work, and is best described as a picture book, so if you are looking for hard facts or even a well thought out hypothesis in any direction you will certainly be left wanting. Speculative leaps are often made in their interpretation of stone blocks as "statues" or odd shaped rocks as "tools", but nevertheless they are intriguing as possibly being man-made objects of such age whatever their purpose. One particularly disappointing segment is that they picture what they assert must be pyramids, but do not make any further investigation and only view them from afar. It is unfortunate they did not take the time to pursue these "pyramids" in greater detail if only to verify or rule out a possible man-made origin because they are definitely pyramid shaped curiously isolated on a large flat plain. One thing curious to me about these stone circles, not noted by the authors, is that the concentric nature of their construction bears a striking similarity to the megalithic ruins found on Malta.Regardless of their theories and lack of hard data, it is obvious they have well documented, if only with pictures, a bonafide historical anomaly desperately worthy of further investigation. What is clear by these photos is that a massive interconnected culture, a veritable metropolis, once existed in South Africa that would appear to pre-date any known civilization by tens of thousands of years. While some of the stone structures may have a more recent origin, if only from late comers refurbishing an existing site for other purposes, it is obvious that the greater part of these ruins are hoary with age well beyond the time frame of any known locally attributable culture. In the area and greater South Africa in general, there are indeed ancient mines dating back by some estimates as much as 100,000yrs with the great mystery, among other things, being obviously who could possibly have been responsible for such things in remote antiquity. If the stone structures they have photographed are any indication, they may have found the answer. Overall, disappointing as a read, but worth every penny for the pictures.

This book has information and beautiful photographs of ruins you have probably never heard about. You see the grass huts that these people are living in today, but never are told about the ruins from the civilization that existed there many thousands of years ago. This book is thought provoking to say the least !

This is the first book I've bought by Michael Tellinger. Lots of wonderful pictures. Food for thought about the origins of humanity and first civilization on Earth. Talks about Adam's Calendar, free energy, gold mining, and other things that seem to confirm the truth in the ancient Sumerian tales.

Michael Tellinger has made the astonishing discovery of the Anunnaki gold mines in Africa. If you have read Zecharia Sitchin's many books about the Anunnaki you will be amazed and delighted by the actual photos of their mines.
