I know I'll catch a lot of flack for it, but I have to give this book one star. There is literally nothing in this book that you cannot find with a simple google search and to be honest your search will come up with more useful hints and tips. This book is for people who have literally no experience with social media in any way shape or form. The author holds your hand through the setting up of facebook and twitter accounts and then basically encourages you to follow rich people, curators, museums and galleries and to ask them for money.There is one story in particular that stood out to me. He tells of a friend that had a printing company and he asked his friend to print a bunch of fliers for him for free. His friend told him that wasn't feasible for him as he couldn't afford to do it. So he wrote his friend off as a jerk. He later found someone that would print something for him for free because that person was clever enough to figure out how they could exploit the author's show or whatever (him and his wife cleaned feet and handed out bandages) for money. This guy was a good guy. Can you hear my eyes rolling? After that gem his book read less like he wanted to help and more like he was condescending to the reader. The majority of the stories are his personal stories rather than case studies of those who have used his methods (were there any methods in this book?) from his workshops. So the whole thing comes across as a vanity book more than anything else.The advice he gives is kind of sound. It's basically this: Know rich people. Exploit them. See a gallery you want to be in? Contact them. Want something for free? Contact people. Also get to know more rich people. If you don't know rich people stalk them on facebook. Oh and use kickstarter.I will say this, in case it was lost in the diatribe above, if you are absolutely clueless as to how to even set up a facebook account this book may be helpful to you.

Same book, different writer. Target audience is too vast, so a good part of the book is wasted on teaching beginners social media- why is that? Most people understand how it works by now and its benefits. If not, you are wasting your time trying to teach them, those are the closed-minded people (a.k.a technology dinosaurs) who never want to learn, anyway. I don't want a book where I have to skip chapters...I recommend picking a niche and targeting that audience for your book- it may be smaller, but the results are better- instead of trying to reach every artist at every level (then you get tough reviews like mine).Another big part of the book is about the author promoting himself-boring and annoying to some extent. Confusion about who the author is: an artist or a mentor? The impression I get is that of someone who is not that successful at either one by trying to be both. All the techniques mentioned to do not work for all types of artists.I do not agree with pursuing flaky people for months, unless they hold the key to major deals. I would recommend you translate the time you invest in pursuing the flaky people into dollars invested, and instead of pursuing these sort of people, you can instead spend your time pursuing more people who are professional and reliable, it may be a better return on your investment.I did like the examples of how some artists became successful, some of the social media strategy examples, and the Kickstarter story- I would recommend more such stories. Clearly a book for beginners, but a waste of money for artists who are seasoned marketers.

I felt the how to just wasn't there. The author points to among other things, the use of twitter, ebay and Facebook but he stops short of beginning to discuss how one might take advantage of these sites. For instance, I know I can post my artwork on ebay but are there ways to do that more effectively. And how would one go about maximizing what ebay, twitter and facebook can offer. I do agree that the book may be more geared to those just beginning or for those who have been stuck in promoting there work in one or two ways but if you've been around a while and have a facebook account or an ebay account and have a little know how, there's not much more that the book offers. Yes, there is a section on the use of art fairs, studio tours, public art and advertising on the web but again, there's not much depth and the author doesn't get into the "how to" which I was hoping for. Sorry but for me it was a disappointment.

Very beginner text for artists. I mean, who isn't already trying to use the internet to show their work? And the text is so big, I think the author was just trying to fill page space. Also, the chapters are disorganized and redundant. Unhelpful for even someone like me, a recent college grad with not even emerging status. I returned it immediately.

Very basic info re mostly how to open up facebook, tweeter accounts etc, maybe good for people who don't know anything about social media, was a little bit disappointed as i was looking for more

I expected this book to help me with my auto repair job, but it exceeded my expectations! The textbook is so detailed and scientific that all my questions were answered. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in auto repair be it professional or amateur.

Good book high price

Excellent book! full of valuable information on everything to do with autobody and collision.

I learned more from this book than the 15 months of hands-on Tech training and their book. The detail of nearly every detail expanded my ideas greatly. Turned out to be one of the best text books I've ever used. I tried talking the school into using this as the text book for the class, but they claim to have had a contract from a distributor.

Very well written and illustrated

I really like this book, there are so many beautiful looks, all illustrated nicely, with step-by-by instructions showing you. I pull it out sometimes when doing my eyes to pick an appropriate look. I have plenty of favorites, there's a great variety, from subtle to bold looks.

I've been having such fun trying these different looks. At the start of the book the author Sarah gives you a list of tools you'll want to have on hand. For those new to makeup, you can find great brush kits at basically every big box store at affordable prices. I can't recommend an eyeshadow primer enough. It helps the colors pop and the look stay put throughout the day. Sarah includes so many great ideas. I've included 6 looks I've tried so far. I didn't have some of the colours, particularly yellows, so I substituted other shades or mixed others I had on hand and experimented with those. The step by step guide with illustrations is exactly what I need, even more so than video tutorials. I can bring this book with me anywhere. I really adore this book. The illustrations are chic and beautiful.

A step-by-step visual guide helps the user re-creating 50 different eye makeup looks. The illustrations are quite striking and spark creativity. The user will determine what might be too extreme or too tame and colors used for a particular look can be, if desired, switched-out for more flattering shades. There is a lot of inventiveness at play and plenty of room for customization. So, the book can be used as a precise blueprint or a loose guide.The drawings are the heart of the book so text is kept to a minimum at the beginning of the book serving as an introduction and providing basic information. It begins with the Foundation section which is just a couple of pages focusing on the inspiration for creating the book and the idea of not locking into one look and rather experimenting with many.There is also a diagram mapping different areas of the eye. Next, helpful/necessary tools and materials are listed, the importance of using eye primer as a base along with a Cheat Sheet of helpful professional hints. The book keeps its focus and is easy to follow. Quality tools and makeup along with practice are all that is needed to master the looks.

Overall, this book is great for beginners but most of the things shown in this book could probably be found on pinterest or another online site or maybe youtube tutorials. For those that prefer print, though, this book was fairly easy to follow. While the demonstrations are made via illustrations versus actual photos/models, the eye makeup designs are drawn beautifully. They’re not cartoon-like and I actually enjoyed the pictures. I tried a few of the styles and it worked out well. The directions were easy to follow. There aren’t really complicated eye makeup designs in the book but there are plenty of ideas in the book that are worth trying. So if you're looking for inspiration on new looks to try and appreciate the sketching style of this book, look no further. Overall 4/5 stars

Love Those Eyes - Love this book. Honestly it's one of the most comprehensive makeup tip books I've read - and I've read a lot. I went to cosmetology school after high school and before college when I was in a phase. I never used the knowledge career-wise but it helped me quite a bit when it comes to makeup and skin care. I'm always looking for new and exciting techniques and this book is chock full of them.From the tools you need on hand to the techniques to use and shortcuts to implement this book literally has it all. There are some techniques and styles I'm dying to try, while there are others I won't. However, this book definitely has something for everyone. The one that I did try so far came out amazing. From day looks to evening looks to professional occasions there is literally a look for everything in this book.The book has easy to understand instructions and clear illustrations to help you achieve the desired makeup style. Highly recommend if you're looking for additional techniques to make your eyes really pop.

For years I've clipped photos of great eye makeup, trying to get ideas. It is not something that comes naturally to me! Now I can toss those pictures because this handy book is full of interesting new ideas about using color and lines to showcase the eyes. The chapters are: Foundations; Shake It Up; Elegant Accent; Drama Darling, Business in Mind and Wild Child.The book starts with the basics, including the tools, but I do wish the authors would have spent some time on eyebrows, always a tricky prospect. Also, I love the step-by-step illustrations but would have appreciated some photographs too, to see how these looks appear on real faces.I loved the creative use of lines but, if the Business in Mind chapter is supposed to be for the workplace, I'd be very curious to know if anyone could get away with the suggested looks while on the job!

If you like makeup, you'll like this book. It's got a few pages of text describing the basics and the foundation terminology that the book uses, and then it's just gorgeous picture after gorgeous picture showing different eye makeup schemes. Most consist of eyeshadow/mascara/eyeliner but occasionally the book has a look that also uses glitter, glue on crystals and fake lashes. It's very inspirational, and really just a delight to look through. It's very easy to understand, and most of the looks are fairly easy to recreate, though some of that depends on an individual's skill set.I would recommend this to anyone who loves eye makeup, cosmetologists, and young teens exploring makeup in particular. There's not as much in here for us older ladies when it comes to fighting crepe and wrinkles, but there are a few of these looks I can still pull off!
