I am in my senior years and I have been reading more books about energy healing systems. The last 12 years I have formally studied and read countless books on Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga, Japanese Shiatsu, Reiki and Jin Shin Do.I recently read another book (Divine Healing Hands) by this author and found it somewhat interesting. I saw this 283 page hardcover volume (Soul Healing Miracles: Ancient and new sacred wisdom by Dr. & Master Zhi Gang Sha) on Amazon for a bargain price and decided to purchase it. Like all Master Sha’s healing series this one follows the same basic format. This includes numerous prayer and chanting procedures to follow in order to heal yourself and others on a wide range of medical and esoteric issues.Like his other books, in order to really grasp this material requires serious study and practice of the prayer and chanting techniques explained in his books. In fact, much of the material is very complex and probably requires personal hands on approach in a class room setting to fully understand the procedures.Some of the material covered in this book includes: Ancient and new sacred wisdom, knowledge and practical techniques for healing, divine and Tao Healing, sacred source Jin Dan meditation for healing, rejuvenation, prolonging life, and transforming relationships, finances, and every aspect of life. Other material includes: the source sacred mantras, for healing the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical bodies.Unfortunately, I must emphasize this fact concerning this healing system. There are so many complex details and procedures to follow in each chapter, that it makes this healing system one of the least practical methods I have ever read and studied in all the years I have been interested in this subject.The author is a prolific writer and has written numerous books on his healing method and he has thousands of loyal followers; however, in my humble opinion his healing techniques are too complex for the average person seeking a simple and easy to use healing method. If you are into long sessions of numerous chanting mantras and meditation this kind of system may appeal to you, but for those seeking a practical and simple healing method should check out other systems of energy healing. In my personal research into numerous energy healing systems learning this complex mystical energy system would take many years of serious study to actually master.Rating: 3 Stars. This book is truly a healing treasure, a comforting friend, and a wise guide all in one. I have used it on many occasions for self-healing and healing others. It always amazes me.The calligraphies in this book are beautiful and powerful healers. I have had great results for physical, mental and emotional healing using the calligraphies. Here are just a couple of examples:Physical pain: I had a nagging backache, just when we were getting ready to go to a friend's place for dinner. I lay face down and placed the book on my back, opened to one of the calligraphy pages. I felt warmth radiating, and in 30 minutes my backache had disappeared. It felt pain free all night and even the next day.Mental/emotional: I was going through some anxiety. I opened the book to a calligraphy page, and placed it on my forehead. The racing thoughts started to quiet down, replaced by a feeling of calm. In less than half an hour, the book had calmed my anxiety which would usually have gone on for a couple of days.I've tried a few of the practices and meditations in this book. They felt very profound. I have yet to try all the practices; I haven't felt the need to, since the few that I have tried are so helpful. I'm sure there's Divine timing involved, and I'll come across the practices when I need them. This is what I mean by 'a comforting friend.' I'm getting to know this book gradually like getting to know a new friend.Having practiced some Yogic meditations, I found the Tao-based practices in this book fascinating. They're similar and yet different; you just need to try them and feel for yourself.There are also permanent healing blessings and downloads in this book. I've received some of them (all you do is read the page and take a quiet moment to receive the download). Even without these, I already find the book pretty amazing. These downloads just take it beyond!All in all, I find this book a valuable companion on my healing and spiritual journey. I highly recommend this book to spiritual seekers, or anyone interested in healing their life!

Cal Newport, a college student himself, wrote these books after interviewing extraordinary students around the country who had straight A's, full social lives, and did lots of extracurriculars such as starting businesses & non-profits, and being politically involved. The point of all his books is how to study more efficiently so you can be an outstanding student while fitting in other essential dimensions of the college experience such as friends, parties and guest lectures. And unlike "speed reading," his techniques are not smoke and mirrors; they are solid and make sense.I didn't feel there was much overlap between his books. "How to Win at College" is composed of 75 two-page "tips" that cover a very wide range of topics. This is the book I originally fell in love with and ordered copies of for many friends, and I recommend reading it first. His second book, "How to Become a Straight A Student," focuses on a few key skills: the trap of "pseudo-studying," time management, how to actually study, conquer exams, and write papers. However once I read it, I liked it almost better than the first one!In short, they are both indespensible, easy reads, hard to put down, and completely different from any other "study skills" books you might read. They are basically "myth busters" of conventional wisdom about school success. If you want to know the "secrets of the universe" regarding succeeding in and loving college, look no further.

I read this book after reading Newport's other study guide How to Become a Straight A Student and was looking forward to more of his easy to understand, quickly read nuggets of wisdom. Although I found the advice in his previous book to be more helpful, I did fine some words of advice that I will surely put to use in my upcoming semester.Among the gems I found, Newport reminds students to "Study in Fifty-Minute Chunks" and "Learn to Listen." In these short chapters there are ideas to help the student better utilize their time by minimizing distractions and knowing exactly what to listen for in a lecture. By far my favorite and most memorable line from this book is "A good analogy is that writing is to a college student what shooting hoops is to a basketball player." Wise advice indeed. I would recommend this book to high school an college students alike. The chapters are short and jam packed with good advice.

As a high school student who is going off to college in a few months, I feel that this book contains a lot of the details, tips and tricks that one needs to succeed. It was highly engaging and concise whilst still providing rather profound feedback/advice. Honestly, many of the "surprising secrets" are not too surprising at all (like the fact that taking naps is a horrendous idea), but Dr. Newport managed to consolidate solutions to all of the little student struggles into a streamlined format.It's a very easy read. I got through it in about an hour. I will likely be reading this a few more times before going off to college. Also, his high school guidebook was amazing! I wish I read that one earlier.

To be honest, if I had just graduated high school and someone gave me this book as a gift, I would roll my eyes and never open it. I picked it up a week ago, however, now that I am almost done with my second year of university, and I really do wish that I had had it (and cared to read it) two years ago.The book is seventy-five pieces of advice, each with about two pages of explanation. The advice is pretty simple, as you can see from looking at the table of contents ("Dress Nicely for Class," "Never Nap," "Eat Healthy," "Always Go to Class"). But the reason this book is effective is that it serves as a quick-reference manifesto for some of the more important (to me) advice.For example, I'm taking a grad-level fiction writing class. No due dates (except the final deadline at the end of the semester) and no class. You just write at your own pace and turn in a portfolio. This is incredibly difficult for me to do, and I'm unbelievably far behind in the work for the class. I was really quite worried about how I would ever pull it off. The whole semester, my fiction work has been priority #75, and I usually crash between priorities #14 and #20. But with some of the advice in this book ("Keep a Work Progress Journal," "Set Arbitrary Deadlines," "Avoid Daily To-Do Lists," "Don't Take Breaks Between Classes"), I actually feel pretty confident about being able to finish on time. By reading this book (and [...] and Newport's more recent book, How to Become a Straight-A Student: The Unconventional Strategies Real College Students Use to Score High While Studying Less) I've adopted some strategies and habits that have actually yielded results.Before Cal Newport, I was up late every night, angrily doing my homework until I couldn't drink any more tea, without any free time. If you are considering purchasing this book, I assume you are already familiar with the Walking Dead. This hardcover collection is my favorite way to read and collect the series. It saves so much room versus buying single issues or the trade paperbacks. The beautiful hardcover protects the stores and ensures they will last for a while. Each volume contains 12 comics as well as some rare artwork and commentary from Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. I love how these look on my shelf and I would recommend them to ANY Walking Dead fan, whether you are brand new to the comics, or already own single issues or trade paperbacks.....these are THE way to collect, read, and enjoy them!!

I got the kindle version and it was hard to read the larger panels on my small phone screen. It was perfectly fine on a larger tablet.If you are a fan of the show and haven't read this, I will warn you that there are substantial differences. It is as if a drunk person explained the plot of the comic books to the screenwriter in a loud bar, and them the screenwriter wrote the show from memory a month later. This is to say that the 'highlights' from the comics made it to the show, but it is still a different story.People are on here trying to review this with deep literary analysis techniques, as if this were Shakespear or Proust or something. This is a comic about zombies. There are many like it, but this is the best one.If you like the show, you will like the comics. I promise. They complement each other, but are different enough to warrant spending time on both.

I bought this after watching the first 7 seasons of the TV show (and being severely disappointed with it from about season 4 onward), and it’s GREAT. I’m so grateful that the TV show inspired me to check out the comic, because the comic is better in many ways—but also, it’s different enough from the TV show that it’s engaging even from the pure plot and character development perspective, since people and events diverge so frequently from what I expect from watching the series.I’ve ordered (but not yet received) the next two volumes of the compendia [shifts glasses up nose], based on how good this volume is. Already, there are so many things that are different from the series, that I’m on the edge of my seat just wondering how things can possibly turn out here.HUGE SPOILERS for those who don’t care about surprises but want to get a sense of how different the comic is from the series: So there’s no Daryl, Merle, or Beth; Sophia, Lori, and Dale live but Carol dies; Carol is a needy sex freak; Rick loses his right hand early on; Michonne shacks up with Tyreese, Andrea shacks up with Dale; they never use the term “walkers” but DO discuss terminology periodically; Glenn isn’t a virgin at the beginning.

I've purchased all volumes up to 22 and the TV show has just about caught up to wear I am in the novels. These books are friggen awesome. I don't read much and my buddy lent me VOL 1 after he knew I liked the show. Well, I burned through the first one and then just went on a tear buying 4 volumes at a time...the price is pretty good for what you get out of these. $9-$15 is the range I've paid per novel, I'm not sure why they aren't the same but anyways, I keep buying them none the less. The story was written before the TV Show and the show follows the story but there is some differences. The written story is more violent and graphic then the tv show but the tv show does a decent job of sticking with main ideas. I've noticed that certain plot things that happen in the book also happen in the show but there is a unique twist like a different character it happens to or something like that. Which makes reading these volumes great cuz I have some idea of where the story is going (after having watched all tv episodes) but there are still surprises. If you like the TV show and haven't read these, give it a try and you will get a whole new experience of the Walking Dead story. I'm putting this same review under every volume I've purchased (1-22) so people can see it. go buy these!

I can't wait til the hubby is done with these so I can actually read them. We are fanatic TWD watchers and I finally got a chance to check these off on his Christmas list!!! He isn't a very big reader , but oh my goodness he read through these so fast!! and the entire time I had to tell him to stop telling me parts cause I wanted to read them, he said that they are um a little more "informative" than the show, so I would say NSFK's, which im really happy that he read them first and we know not to hand them over, we even feel uncomfortable giving them to our 15yo. I got him books 1&2 and plan on working on getting him a set of 2 twice a year. I would suggest getting them after you've watched the show only because if you read them first you might be a little disappointed that some things don't happen in the show that happen in the book. But if reading after the watching the show it gives a little more depth to most of the scenes. overall im happy with my purchase and plan on getting more

I get excited every year they put another one of the Omnibuses out. The artwork is phenomenal, and the inclusion of additional covers, sketches, and other drawings at the end is a welcomed finish. It is a big heavy book, so definitely designed as a collector's item. Highly recommended.Update: anyone know if #7 is coming out? These have been perfectly timed in the past to come out around the holidays and this year, nothin.Update: I contacted a distributor and they said while they don't have an official release date for Omnibus 7, they estimated sometime in July/August 2017

This book was a pure joy to listen to. I enjoyed every minute of it. Paper Forest was the perfect character to lead me through this near future scifi tale. She’s blessed with caring family & friends even as she grows up in one of the poorest areas, working in a giant landfill. She and her sisters (Rock and Scissors, and yes, they are triplets) each have different talents and Paper’s is her fascination with rockets and Mars. This causes several model rocket mishaps, much to Duggie’s amusement (Paper’s best friend). Everyone in the Fill watches the game show You’re Going To Mars, the entertainment child of trillionaire Zach Larson.Then a magical thing happens. People have conspired to get Paper on that show because they believe in her, love her, and want a champion of the Fill. The Gitanos, a ruthless family that owns and runs the Fills around the world, have near-slavery multi-generational contracts with the inhabitants of the Fills. The horrible living and working conditions are unknown to outsiders.There is so much well placed humor in this story. Sometimes it’s used to lighten a moment, sometimes just to give some snark, and then sometimes to make a serious point. Paper is great with her snark. It’s just the right amount and I never got tired of hearing her thoughts on everything.The other contestants on the show were fun too. Aurora stands out because of all her sass but also because she’s both needy and distrusting all at the same time. She’s one of those celebrity stars known for her music and not her math or engineering skills. The real astronauts that have been training for years for this Mars trip aren’t too thrilled about taking along some bratty contestant winner, whoever that turns out to be. Astronaut Dan Daniels sure isn’t happy and he lets everyone know it.The suspense winds up and one contestant after another is dropped from the competition. I loved that it wasn’t a bad thing for everyone (in fact someone wins a pet store! Ha! What a consolation prize!). There’s also more humor as the would be astronauts learn about astronaut life, like all those close living arrangements…. when you are doing everything. I mean everything!Paper has some scary moments but I love how Jane does her best again and again to keep Paper in the game. The Gitanos are just one hurdle. There are others that don’t want a private organization successfully setting down on Mars. Perhaps there is something there we don’t expect after all.This story gave me one fist-bump moment after another. I was verbally cheering Paper on at times, much to the amusement of people around me. You go Paper! The ending has a few sad moments and some great want to the hug everyone moments. Honestly, this has been one my favorite books for the year. 5/5 stars.The Narration: Khristine Hvam did an amazing job. She is Paper Forest. I also applaud her ability to make all three sisters sound closely related but to also give each a distinct voice, mostly through attitude. Her male voices are spot on too. She had the perfect older male voice for Zach Larson. Her sass for Aurora was just as I pictured it. The recording quality was top notch. Excellent all around. 5/5 stars.

Rob Dircks' You're Going to Mars is a remarkable book voiced by a talented narrator. The protagonist, Paper (aka Pepper, aka Robin) is intelligent, empathetic, loyal, resolute, and completely intent on one day making it to Mars, regardless of how slim the odds may be. She is immediately likable and I found myself desperately hoping she'd somehow find a way to accomplish her mission, enjoy the adventure along the way, and secure an advantageous outcome for her whole family.You're Going to Mars is part Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, part Survivor, part the Martian, and part Obscura, but set in the world of Disney's Wall-E...kind of. If you're familiar with Wall-E, you may recall that robots scavenged and processed waste in the future, assigned to a certain geographical location to "clean up" abandoned cities while humans lived elsewhere, in a place largely influenced by corporations. The world Dircks creates in You're going to Mars is reminiscent of Wall-E's world, except there are people mining and processing waste instead of robots, and the others aren't living aboard a starliner, but rather in the "mainland" of the United States.Triplets Paper, Rock, and Scissors live with their father and grandmother in Fill City One where they are expected to continue this work for the duration of their lives. We learn that they are not considered citizen's of the United States but instead, belong to the corporation that owns and operates Fill City One (and other cities like it). Dircks masterfully utilizes sensory imagery to transport readers to Paper's world, enabling readers to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel everything that Paper does throughout the book. For instance, Paper describes her home as a place filled with both love, and a distinct smell... a place where the smell of methane and waste is such constant that the fillers have given it a name: "Everpresent Stink." The "Everpresent Stink" is so deeply a part of her world that Paper immediately notices its absence when she takes her first breath outside of Fill City One.When Paper receives the prized and much sought after Red Scarab, she embraces the adventure and eagerly awaits the opportunity to compete for a seat on the first manned mission to Mars, an opportunity that could fulfill her childhood dream of visiting the Red Planet while also drastically improving the quality of life for her family. As a Trauma RN, I was already aware of the behind the scenes issues and protocols associated with organ donation. This book gave me a better look at system wide issues including conflict of interest problems, poor methodology, and overall bad science that drives the billion dollar push for donation. From experience, I know that families can be bullied, harassed, and shamed into making choices they may not want or agree with when tragedy strikes. I am very aware from practice that the line between "dead" and "alive" can be crossed and re-crossed in many ways during the care and treatment of the injured patient. This book is an eye opener for the uninitiated and confirmation of doubts and suspicions for those who have traversed the mine field of organ donation. Highly recommended read no matter where ones sympathies are.

I was tempted to rate this book with five stars, as others have done, merely to counteract the work of reviewers who haven't read the text. But I cannot in good conscience do so. Instead I have rounded up from 3.5 to 4 stars. There is much to recommend this book, but I will not offer unadulterated praise.When deciding whether or not to buy or read this book, look at the dates of the reviews (noting that many of the one-star reviews were posted the day the book was released- I read well and fairly quickly, but a careful reading of the text took time) . Many such reviews admit to being based on a Wall Street Journal article rather than this book. I think it reprehensible to review a book one has not read. I find the impassioned hyperbole warning readers away from this book more dangerous than the hyperbole occasionally employed by the author, though the latter bothered me occasionally, as well. Disallowing these things to be said will not make them untrue or irrelevant. Do not think either that having received a donated liver makes a reviewer qualified to discuss the merits of this book without reading it. But I digress; this was not meant to be a review of reviews (but it clearly is that, too). My point is that if the issues discussed in the book interest you at all and you do not think that discussing something unpleasant should not be allowed, I recommend this book.As I suggested, Mr. Teresi does tend toward hyperbole. His refusal to dispense with the term "harvesting" in favor of the more palatable terms such as 'organ procurement' smacks of a desire render the entire process unpalatable. He implies several times that a DNR order is sometimes tantamount to "killing ... loved ones" (eg, pg 93). This narrow-mindedness was evident occasionally in the writing, though Mr. Teresi deserves much credit for looking at the issue of death and organ procurement/transplantation from many different angles. In addition to being well researched, the work is well cited, so the research is documented and fairly easy to replicate.I think that as a responsible thinker who sees the issues Mr. Teresi raises as alarming and worth pursuing, I must read as many of his sources as possible. I realize that not everyone has the time or desire to do this, but one should not declare well cited material to be "lies and fabrications" as some reviewers have, without investigation. I must say that I am distressed by reviewer S.Fitzpatric's accusation that Mr. Teresi has altered his email transcript to suit his purposes. Such allegations should be carefully considered and investigated.This book has some problems, such as Mr. Teresi's repeated insistance that he has no cause to sway reader's opinions but only to report facts. This, he mixes in with talk of killing grandma that will remind many bioethicists of "the daughter from California". But the information itself, the important piece of this puzzle, seems solid and well-researched, and more importantly, is very timely in the discussion of organ transplantation from 'dead' donors. This book's problems are worth moving beyond in the interest of learning from a great body of research on the historical and contemporary approaches to the problem of determining death and the implications thereof for organ transplantation from dead donors. I have noticed that among the gentry not every Richard can be called Dick. This is an unusual case in which Dick is the writer and Richard a mere resident of Amherst, MA. I was glad to see the book appear because I had wondered what new forms of hanky panky had emerged in the world of organ donation. The first clue that it was business as usual was when an elderly Chinese man handed me a pamphlet on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco describing a thriving organ-harvesting industry in the Peoples' Republic of China. But evidence is easy to refute. Some familiarity with human nature would lead one to posit that the demand for organs and the need to harvest them while the patient was still alive if he/she could be deemed brain dead might lead to what the author calls philosophical rather than medical determinations on just who is brain dead and who is not. The spectrum of criteria for admission is likely broad. Oh she can no longer wear a bikini and walk along the beach. Oh he has forgotten how to integrate in the complex plane. Finally I really liked the number of one and two stars the author drew from reviewers. That means he has something unusual and original to say.

This book opened my mind on a few issues regarding brain death and organ donation. And to me, at this point, there are still no clear cut answers. As a nurse and lawyer at a teaching hospitals, I know that organ transplantation is a big business, but had no idea of the extent. I did revise my Healthcare POA documents to reflect that I want brain flow studies prior to being declared brain dead and the organs geing procured. This book has raised so many issues in my mind. Now I need to do more research and find the answers that satisfy me. This book is an excellent primer for anyone with a less than stellar knowledge of the issues. Easy, interesting read with a decent history of the concept of brain death.

A beautiful book featuring pictures of a gritty NYC in all its glory. The photography of city streets, people, and celebrities are showcased through Chris Stein’s artistic eye. The book features never before seen shots of Debbie Harry that are stunning. Every turn of the page was exciting and stimulating in its depiction of life in the City.

This is an excellent book that takes a look at everyday life of regular people living in New York City. There's only a handful of photos featuring Debbie Harry and other punk rock icons. The bulk of the book are beautiful black and white photos of New York City during '70s.

I was never a punk rocker. Thier music is creative and Debbie had the style, moves, and vocal to propel this professional group to the top charts. Yes we think of Debbie when we hear blonde. But hey thats the name you gave your group !! It’s like Fleetwood Mac and Heart. Same thing. The individual musicians make the whole. I would be very gratified as your book portrays. It’s to bad I never got to meet you all. I was head over heals in my twenties for Debbie. You have made your mark. Great books. Wish you didn’t have to struggle so much. Cheers.

Greatest pictures love this book

I love this book. Stein is a gifted artist on multiple platforms and this book is exactly what I was anticipating - excellent. His writing is very personal and brief regarding the photos. Leaves you wishing for more.

A fascinating glimpse of the formative years of one of the co-founders of Blondie.

Is it as good as the previous collection? No. But, what is?

This book is an excellent collection of photographs that capture the true essence of New York City in its former glory/decay.
